Lyncs Destroy Vikings

LYNDEN – Back at home in the USA for their home opener after traveling to Canada last week, the Lynden Christian Lyncs looked dominant in a thrashing of the North Kitsap Vikings by a score of 56-7.

Building on their week one win over Vancouver College, the Lyncs looked strong on both sides of the ball against the 2A program. A defensive stop after the opening kickoff highlighted by a Luke VanRooyen sack forced a North Kitsap punt and gave the ball to the LC offense.

Kamphouse

Senior quarterback Eli Maberry proceeded to lead a 10-play drive that included a 17-yard reception by junior tight end Kaden Veldman on a 4th and 14. Maberry capped it off with a zone read keeper to put the Lyncs up 7-0 after the PAT.

The salty LC defense did not yield another first down in the quarter and it was quickly 21-0 at the end of the first twelve minutes. Veldman secured a 6-yard TD reception and that was followed by a 34-yard touchdown rumble by Wyatt Kamphouse.

The second quarter was much like the first, with stingy Lync defense and an interception by senior defensive back Jaxon Huleatt. A big QB hit was also made by junior lineman Justin Kuik.

The Lync offense continued to thrive and had short drives due to good field position.

Huleatt

A Maberry to senior receiver Boyce Robertson touchdown pass pushed the lead to 28-0. Not long after, a 4-yard run by junior Chris Kooiman extended the lead. With just 51 seconds before the half, Kamphouse hauled in a 39-yard pass that ensured the running clock would be in effect after intermission.

Headed to the locker room with a 42-0 lead, Coach Greg Terpstra and the Lyncs put on a first half show for the home crowd.

After receiving the 3rd quarter kickoff, Lynden Christian gave their starters one more series. Maberry hit Huleatt on a 19-yard touchdown with an accurate strike to put the game away.

North Kitsap did score a touchdown on a 19-yard run in the second half once outcome was decided. However, the LC defense held the Vikings under 50 yards rushing and gave up just 107 passing, many of those yards gained late in the game.

The Lyncs (2-0) will travel to Okanogan (1-0) on Friday to take on the Bulldogs at 6:00.
