SPOKANE – It was the tale of two halves, and unfortunately for the Lady Blackhawks, the second half belonged to Garfield-Palouse who came back from being down by double-digits in the first half to defeat Lummi Nation 41-33 in the quarterfinal round of the 1B state tournament.
The Lady Blackhawks were only able to manage nine points in the entire second half, as the Vikings were able to pull away as well as hit their foul shots.
One of the biggest reasons for Lummi Nation’s offensive woes in the second half was a second-quarter injury to guard Jordan Reeder, who can really light up a scoreboard, as she was unable to continue in the second half.
The eighth-grade dynamo came into the game averaging nearly 15 points per contest, but was held to just two points in her limited action.
Junior guard Jemma James led the Blackhawks with 15 points, eight rebounds, five steals and two assists. She also played every minute of the game.
Senior forward Ailina Rabang added eight points and five rebounds before fouling out with less than a minute to go.
Lummi Nation (22-5) will now face Yakama Tribal (24-4) at 2:00 tomorrow in a loser-out contest.
