Golden Eagles Get Back On Track

OAK HARBOR – It looked more like Ferndale football on Friday night as the Golden Eagles ran all over the Wildcats to pick up the 39-14 win.

Ferndale ripped off four touchdowns in the first quarter, and did it with its trademark run game and a few big-play passes.

Hatchett

The Golden Eagles were given great field position on their first drive when sophomore defensive tackle Trey Munson recovered a fumbled snap on the second play from scrimmage. Six plays later it was junior running back Elliott Lenssen that sped to the left side of the field and ran into the endzone untouched from 15 yard out.

Ferndale then forced a three-and-out, and responded with a deep ball down the right side of the field from senior quarterback Nolan Boleak to sophomore tight end Chance Hatchett, which covered 42 yards, and put the Golden Eagles at the 9-yard line. Senior running back Jon Stanek scored on the next play on a straight dive up the middle.

Lenssen and Hatchett weren’t done in the quarter just yet, as each of them scored a touchdown before the game was moved into the second quarter.

The Wildcats then scored on an 8-yard touchdown pass, but Ferndale was able to answer with a six-yard touchdown pass from Boleak to Hatchett on the last play from scrimmage before the half.

Cowie

Lenssen had more big runs in the third quarter, and scored his third touchdown of the game to conclude the Golden Eagle scoring. He finished with a career-high 154 yards rushing on 20 carries and Stanek added 89 yards on the ground on 11 attempts.

Oak Harbor was able to rip off a few large rushing plays late in the contest against the backups in blue and gold, and scored one last touchdown to get double digits on its home scoreboard.

Ferndale’s defense was led by Stanek who had 5.5 tackles, and senior defensive end Max Cowie who had two stops behind the line of scrimmage.

The Golden Eagles (1-1) will host Marysville-Getchell (0-2) on Friday at 7:00.
