Bellingham Captures Road Win

EDMONDS – The Bayhawks overcame numerous mistakes and still managed to hold Lynnwood to just 72 yards of total offense as they picked up the 19-7 victory at Edmonds-Woodway High School on Friday night.

In the first half, Bellingham dropped a sure interception, had a snap go 20 yards over the punter’s head and threw an interception, but the Bayhawks still managed to go into halftime with a 7-0 lead thanks to a pitch-and-catch from Ben Leonard to Joe Harward which saw Harward break eight tackles on his way to a 63-yard touchdown.

Lynnwood had its chances, and had the ball in the red zone twice, but turned the ball over both times.

The Bellingham defensive charge was led by senior Owen Hanstead who lead with eight tackles, including two stops behind the line of scrimmage. It also saw the emergence of freshman defensive lineman Rylan Clausen who had six tackles, three tackles for loss, two quarterback sacks and a forced fumble.

The Bayhawk defense not only turned the Royals away twice in the red zone, but also captured two safeties in the game, and was inches away from getting a third.

Harward scored his second touchdown of the game in the third quarter when he skied over his opponent and grabbed the ball at its highest point from 19 yards out. He finished with five receptions for 128 yards.

Lynnwood scored its only points late in the game on a 63-yard fumble return.

The Bayhawks (1-0) begin conference play on Friday when they host Lakewood (0-1) at 7:00 at Civic Stadium.
