Sehome 42, Bellingham 24

It was a fast-paced, high-tension start for both teams in the packed gym at Sehome High school for the first game of the Bellingham versus Sehome doubleheader. It was a struggle to gain control of momentum but Sehome found something at the end of the first half.
Back-to-back baskets gave them an eight-point lead heading into the locker rooms and they came back to score 12 more unanswered points. The Mariners gave up just two points in the third quarter, outscoring the Bayhawks 14-2.

Bellingham held Sehome to just six points in the final quarter of play but the Mariners were too far out of reach and took the “Bellinghome” game victory.
The Mariners were led in scoring by sophomore Taylor Turrell with her 16 and juniors Sadie Gustafson and Kate Schroeder with five points each. Schroeder also led her team with seven rebounds and five steals, and senior center Aspen Barge battled early foul trouble and still finished with six blocks.
The Bayhawks were led in scoring by the 12 points of senior Mary Lockhart and 10 points of junior Merritt Jensen. Not only did they combine for 92% of their team’s points, but they also combined for 70& of their team’s rebounds.

Ferndale 65, Blaine 29

The Borderites led 9-7 after the first quarter, but the Golden Eagles put the clamps on for the rest of the game as they totaled 38 steals which led to easy buckets as well as the victory at home.
Leading the theft brigade was junior guard Brooklyn Larrabee who finished with eight steals to go with her game-high 20 points and seven assists.
Junior guard Heavens Jefferson grabbed seven steals, and senior guard Kayla Washington dropped in 17 points.

Freshman guard Mia Collins added 11 points, and junior guard Kenzie Dawson grabbed a team-high six rebounds.
Blaine was led by senior forward Aaliyah Bowman who finished with 14 points, nine rebounds and made 10-of-14 from the foul line.
Freshman forward Hailey Kruse had six points and 11 rebounds, and senior guard Brietta Sandell finished with eight rebounds and five steals.

Lakewood 76, Mount Baker 43

Already down two starters, it would take a “Herculean” effort to defeat the Cougars. The effort was there, but it didn’t result in a win as the Mountaineers fell at home.
Junior center Rebeca Soares totaled 19 points, a school-record 26 rebounds, three assists, three steals and two blocks to lead Mount Baker.
Senior forward Reace Brown added eight points, eight rebounds and three assists, and sophomore guard Kalyn Abitia was close behind with seven points, eight boards and two steals.
Four of the eight Mount Baker players that saw action in the game started the season on the JV squad.
