Lakewood 53, Meridian 50 (OT)
A steal and score by the Cougars gave them a 45-43 lead with 40 seconds left in regulation. It prompted a Trojan timeout with 27 seconds left, and just the right play needed to be drawn up.

The impending shot by Meridian was missed, and players from both teams dove on the floor to fight for possession of the ball, and a jump-ball was called, with possession going back to Lakewood with 13 seconds left.
The Cougar player that caught the inbound pass was fouled immediately and sent to the foul line for two shots. The first one missed, and the second one was made, which gave the Cougars a 46-43 lead with 12 seconds left.
The precious seconds wore down as the Trojans looked for a perimeter shot to tie the game up. The finally found it, and junior guard Amelia Koning launched a three-pointer, which was missed. However, a foul was called with 0.7 seconds left, and she would go to the foul line for three shots.
She made the first one, and missed the second one, which meant she needed to try to purposely miss the third one, so an offensive putback could tie the game. Her purposeful miss hit only the backboard, which prompted a quick whistle and gave possession back to Lakewood to end the game.
The Cougars then called a timeout to ensure a clean inbound, but that didn’t happen. The inbound pass was bounced in, and quickly stolen by Koning who immediately put it off the glass for two points, which sent the game into overtime.
Lakewood survived the scare, and was able to hit numerous key shots in the overtime period to avoid the upset on the road.
Koning finished with a career-high 18 points, and junior guard Eden Bernardy added 10 points, eight rebounds and three assists.
Junior forward Lola Gibbs finished with eight points and four rebounds, and junior forward Maddy Swanson led Meridian with nine rebounds, five assists and three steals.
