Parcher

Thanks to a foul, the Lions were able to set the tone early, scoring four points before Selah could even take possession of the ball.

The Vikings got hot to start the second quarter and took a small one point lead. However, Lynden was quick to shut the party down, charging on a 14-2 run and heading into the locker room with a nine point lead at half.

In the second half, the Lions were able to capitalize on turnovers and free throws. The offense surged ahead with junior guard Finley Parcher leading the way as she scored a game-high 31 points on an incredible 11-for-14 from the field. She also finished with nine rebounds, seven steals, four assists and was a perfect 8-for-8 from the foul line.

Senior forward Payton Mills muscled her way to a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Junior guard Lexi Hermanutz added 12 points, and sophomore guard Izzie Stephan came off the bench to score five points.

The top-ranked Lions will next play at 10:30 on Thursday morning at the Yakima SunDome in the quarterfinal round of the 2A state tournament.

The Lady Blackhawks nearly knocked off the 3-time defending state champions, and top-ranked, Red Devils, but Neah Bay was able to survive at the end and pick up the win.

Eighth grade guard Jordan Reeder hit a three-pointer to get the Blackhawks on the scoreboard, but the Red Devils finished the first quarter on an 18-8 run.

Lummi Nation then picked up its defensive intensity in the second quarter, and held the defending champs to zero field goals. It was a 19-19 tie at the half.

Neah Bay started to connect on some shots from deep in the third quarter, but the Blackhawks started to charge back in the final period and a layup by junior guard Jemma James tied the game at 40-40. James then gave her team a 41-40 lead with 1:30 left to play on a free throw, but Lummi Nation was held scoreless in the final 90 seconds as the Red Devils hit a bucket, and a foul shot late in the game.

James finished with 17 points and four rebounds, and Reeder added 13 points and a pair of steals. Senior forward Ailina Rabang pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.

The Blackhawks will now play at 9:00 on Wednesday night at Spokane against the winner of this afternoon’s game between Almira Coulee Hartline and Muckleshoot Tribal.
