Bartl

The Pioneers knew exactly how to start the game off, against a team that played its most emotional and exhausting game of the season less than 24 hours prior. Run, run, run! And, Nooksack Valley did just that in the final game of the 1A district tournament which decided the final state playoff spot.

Leading the charge was senior guard Payton Bartl who ripped off 15 of her game-high 28 points in the first quarter. She seemingly couldn’t miss at times and she finished the game making 10-of-15 from the field and 5-of-6 from the line.

Senior center Grace DeHoog also had a strong showing inside as she pulled down 28 rebounds to go with her 11 points, three assists, three steals and two blocked shots.

Fox

Junior forward Raegan Burke added eight points and five boards, while senior guard Chayleigh Davis scored six points and dished out five assists.

The Mountaineers were led by junior guard Violet Fox who finished with 15 points, eight rebounds, five assists and five steals. She also knocked down her team’s three-3-pointers.

Junior center Rebeca Soares had 11 points, eight boards, three steals and two blocked shots. Freshman guard Gabby Nutting scored five points, and senior forward Reace Brown added four points.

Nooksack Valley captured the ninth seed, which means it will face King’s Way Christian this weekend in a winner-to-Yakima/loser out contest. The date, location and time are yet to be determined.

Mount Baker’s season came to a close with a deceiving record of 6-16 (five losses were due to forfeits).

James

The Lady Blackhawks went on a 22-0 run in the first half as they captured third place in the 1B tri-district tournament.

Junior guard Jemma James connected on nine of her first 10 field goal attempts, and she finished the game with 24 points, seven rebounds, six steals and four assists.

Senior forward Ailina Rabang added a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, and eighth grade guard Jordan Reeder had 11 points and five rebounds.

Lummi Nation captured the eighth-seed and will face top-ranked Neah Bay in the regional round of the 1B state tournament. A loss in that would send them to Spokane’s state tournament a day early (Wednesday), and a win would place them in the quarterfinal round of the state tournament. The Lady Blackhawks lost by just four points in an earlier matchup with Neah Bay this season.

Kettman

The speedy Vikings doubled up the Storm in each of the first three quarters, and the hill was too steep for Squalicum to climb in the final period as they lost at home in the 2A district crossover game for the final spot in the state tournament.

Junior forward Addison Kettman led the Storm in almost every statistical category. She ended with 12 points, eight rebounds, three steals and two blocked shots. She also hit both of her 3-point attempts.

Junior guard Colee Harper had eight points and two steals, and junior guard Lexi Robbins added seven points, four rebounds and three assists.

Senior forward Jolie Paz and junior forward Tiana Thompson each pulled down six rebounds for the Storm who ended their season with a record of 20-5.

Although they just missed out on the state tournament, it was the first time in 22 years that a Squalicum girls basketball team reached at least 20 wins in a season, and just the second time in school history.
