The Lions came out and scored the first three points of the game, but it was quickly answered by eighth grade guard Jordan Reeder who hit a three-ball, and it was all Lady Blackhawks after that as they captured their second straight district championship.

Junior guard Jemma James scored a game-high 23 points on 10-of-21 shooting, and she also finished with seven rebounds, seven steals and four assists.

Senior forward Ailina Rabang neared a triple-double with 18 points, nine rebounds and nine steals, and she also dished out a team-high five assists.

Senior guard Brianna Metteba added 10 points to go with a team-high 11 rebounds, as well as six steals and four assists, and Reeder had 14 points and six boards.

Lummi Nation will likely be one of the top seeds in next week’s tri-district tournament, which means they would probably host a game on Tuesday night. Time and opponent are still unknown.

In a must-win situation to keep their season alive, the Bayhawks took care of business at home. As a matter of fact, they did more than that as they dismantled the Tomahawks in every quarter.

Bellingham connected on 8-of-13 from downtown as a team, with sophomore guard Lucy Holland leading the way with four 3-pointers, and she finished with a team-high 18 points and six steals.

Senior center Mary Lockhart finished 15 points, and junior forward Merritt Jensen grabbed a team-high nine rebounds as they commanded the inside while the damage was being done on the perimeter.

Sophomore guard Elise Holland finished with 10 points, seven assists, six boards and three steals, and senior guard Ashley Ask came off the bench and hit a trio of three-pointers.

With the win, the Bayhawks advance to take on top-ranked Lynden on the road at 6:00 on Thursday night.
