An early penalty kick by Trojan senior Eli Hays gave Meridian a 1-0 lead, which remained the score throughout the rest of the first half. Sophomore Adrian Meza headed in a goal off a corner kick early in the second half to give the Trojans a 2-0 lead. Golden Eagle senior Evan Saxman was able to score a goal in the final minutes of the game, but Ferndale wasn’t able to threaten after that as time ran out.
Bellingham 2, Sedro-Woolley 2
The Cubs scored the first goal of the game almost halfway through the first half, and the Bayhawks were able to answer it about seven minutes later when senior Oliver Ochs scored off a corner kick. Bellingham then took the lead 20 minutes into the second half when senior Kris Armenta scored a goal. Sedro-Woolley was able to tie it up 10 minutes later, and the score remained knotted at 2-2 until time ran out.
Mount Vernon 4, Lynden Christian 2
The 3A Bulldogs scored three goals in the first half, and it looked like it could have been a runaway for Mount Vernon at home, but the Lyncs came to play in the second half. Keenan Deming scored a goal which assisted by both Isaac Scott and Harvest Howell. Howell then had a free kick later in the second half from 40 yards out that was stopped, but sophomore Jackson Yun was there for the rebound and put it into the net to make it a one-score game. Multiple Lynden Christian shots then hit the posts, and the Bulldogs cemented the victory with 30 seconds left when they scored on a penalty kick.
Oak Harbor 5, Nooksack Valley 1
The Pioneers got a goal from sophomore Arien Anker, but it wouldn’t be enough as they fell at home to the 3A Wildcats.
Lakewood 5, Blaine 0
The Borderites were blanked at home against the 2A Cougars. Blaine is still looking for its first win of the young season.
