Harward

The Pioneers took the lead late in the fourth quarter when senior guard Cole Coppinger drew a foul and made the close-range shot. His free throw extended Nooksack Valley’s lead to 58-56 with 25 seconds left in the game.

The Bayhawks then called a timeout with 15 seconds left, and when play resumed, a lot of focus was on junior Calvin VanHofwegen who had already made four 3-pointers in the game. An entry went to senior forward Joe Harward, who instantly hit senior center Barrett Johnson who was cutting to the basket. His shot was missed with five seconds remaining, but he was fouled in the act of shooting.

Johnson made the first shot, but his second one rimmed off to the right, and Harward skied above the rest of the competition to grab the rebound, and put it back off the glass for two points, and the lead, with 0.6 seconds left.

Wichers

The eventual game-winner landed Harward right at 20 points for the game. He also nabbed a game-high 12 rebounds to go with his three steals.

VanHofwegen finished with 14 points and four assists, and sophomore guard Emmett VanHouten added 10 points.

The Pioneers were led by senior Owen Wichers who finished with 23 points on 9-of-17 shooting.

Coppinger had 13 points, and seniors Jayden Anderson and Crew Bauman each dished out four assists.
