Hintz

The Goats gave it a great effort, but they had trouble containing this year’s “GOAT” in Whatcom County as junior guard Dawson Hintz racked up 31 points in the first three quarters, and did it without attempting a single foul shot as he helped propel the Lyncs into the quarterfinal round of the 1A state tournament.

Hintz made 13 of his 23 field goal attempts, which included splashing home 5-of-10 from beyond the three-point line.

Junior guard Gunnar Dykstra finished with 24 points, four assists and four rebounds. He also made 6-of-8 from the foul line.

Senior forward Boyce Robertson dished out a team-high six assists and he also grabbed seven rebounds. Junior forward Kaden Veldman grabbed 13 rebounds, blocked six shots and handed out five assists, and senior center Hayden Herwerden even got into the long distance act by making his third long ball of the season in just his fourth attempt.

The Lyncs will next play in the Yakima SunDome at 2:00 on Thursday against the winner of Wednesday’s game between Seattle Christian and Nooksack Valley.

Toby

The Blackhawks took their first step of attempting to repeat as the 1B state champions by defeating the Mules in the opening round of this year’s 1B state tournament.

Senior guard Jerome Toby let his defense turn into instant offense as his team-high five steals helped pave the way for 26 points and four assists on the other side of the court.

Senior center Chayce Waite-Kellar crushed home another double-double with 18 points and 12 rebounds while fighting through constant double teams in the paint.

Junior guard Dyson Edwards shot 6-of-10 from the field for 14 points, and he also found numerous open teammates as he racked up eight assists.

The top-seeded Blackhawks now move into the quarterfinal round of the 1B state tournament, and will play at 10:30 in the morning on Thursday against the winner of Wednesday’s game between Neah Bay and Sunnyside Christian.
