Senior Ty Jorgensen wasted no time getting things going for Lynden, dunking the ball the first chance he got. The Lions scored seven more unanswered points to start the game and by the end of the first quarter, they held a 22-6 lead.

By halftime, the Lions had expanded their lead to 23 points.

Franklin Pierce found some momentum in the third quarter but Lynden wasn’t slowing down. The Lions outscored the Cardinals 38-17 in the second half, and booked their ticket back to the Yakima SunDome.

Junior forward Lewis Whitney came off the bench to lead Lynden with 14 points on 7-of-9 shooting.

Senior forward Spencer Adams grabbed a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds, and Jorgenson finished with 12 points and eight boards.

Lynden will play at 9pm on Wednesday night against the loser of tonight’s game between top-ranked Bremerton and Renton.

The Pioneers got little respect going into the tournament, as they were slapped with the 16th seed, but they showed what they could do five hours away from home as they used a strong second half to defeat the Trappers and keep their season alive.

After a 25-25 tie at halftime, Nooksack Valley outscored Fort Vancouver 29-20 in the second half.

A steal and a three-pointer at the end of the third quarter by senior guard Jayden Anderson helped separate the Pioneers from the Trappers. Anderson finished with 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting, and he also tied for the team-lead with 10 rebounds.

Senior guard Owen Wichers scored 14 points, and senior guard Crew Bauman added 10 points, 10 boards and three steals. Senior guard Cole Coppinger led his team with five assists.

The win sends the Pioneers to Yakima where they will play at 2:00 on Wednesday against the loser of tonight’s game between top-ranked Zillah and Seattle Christian.
