Meridian 49, Blaine 42

The Borderites scored almost half of their points in the fourth quarter alone, but it wasn’t enough to complete the comeback as the Trojans picked up the win in the elimination game of the 1A district tournament.
Once again, it was junior guard Pierce Brzozowski who came through for Meridian, this time he was able to total 19 points, six rebounds and three assists as he helped keep his team alive in postseason play.
Junior guard Gabe Galbraith added 10 points, and senior center Daniel Larsen banged down low for eight points and seven rebounds. Junior guard Trey Alexander added a team-high four steals.

Blaine was led by junior forward Peyton Bouma who finished with 18 points and seven rebounds. He also made both of his three-point attempts, while the rest of the Borderites combined to shoot 0-15 from beyond the arc.
Senior forward Landon Melton scored 10 points for Blaine before fouling out. Senior guard Kai Kerwin dished out six assists and junior forward Landon Brown led his team with three steals.
The Trojans have one more step if they want to make it to the 1A state tournament, and they will meet up with Nooksack Valley at 2:50 today at Lynden High School for that final spot.
Blaine’s season ended with a record of 5-19.
