The Pioneers had a great gameplan, and executed it extremely well in the first half. The in-your-face defense made every Lync shot a tough one, and Nooksack Valley trailed by just five points at the half. Lynden Christian was able to rip off 30 points in the third quarter, behind five 3-pointers, and that the Pioneers were unable to recover as the Lyncs took the 1A district championship.

Senior forward Boyce Robertson neared a triple-double as he totaled 17 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists as his overall athleticism shined all game long.

Despite tight defense on him all game long, junior guard Gunnar Dykstra still led all players with 21 points, and junior forward Kaden Veldman added 12 points, eight rebounds and four blocks.

Coppinger

Sophomore guard Traden Ridnour came off the bench and was 4-for-4 from beyond the arc, as was Dykstra, and it was their shooting that elevated their team in the third quarter.

Nooksack Valley was led by senior guard Cole Coppinger who finished with 11 points.

Senior guard Jayden Anderson had 10 points, three assists and three steals, and senior center Brian Leyerly was 5-for-8 for 10 points. Senior guard Owen Wichers added nine points and eight rebounds.

The Pioneers are still alive and will face the winner of Friday night’s Meridian/Blaine game at 2:50 on Saturday at Lynden High School for the final 1A state playoff spot.
