Adams

The Bayhawks played tight with the Lions throughout the first half, and trailed by just six points at the midway break, but Lynden was extremely efficient in the second half and ran away with the home victory in the first round of the 2A district tournament.

Speaking of efficient, Lion senior center Ty Jorgenson made 9-of-10 shots from the field, as well as all three of his foul shots as he finished with 21 points, four rebounds, four assists and two blocked shots.

Harward

Senior forward Spencer Adams led Lynden with 25 points, nine assists and eight rebounds, and sharp-shooting junior guards Malachi Koenen and Gordy Bedlington combined to go 6-of-7 from beyond the arc, and they each scored 11 points apiece.

Bellingham was led by senior forward Joe Harward who made 16-of-20 from the field and he finished with 38 points and four rebounds.

Senior guard Cyrus Campos and sophomore guard Emmett VanHouten each had four assists to lead the Bayhawks. VanHouten also scored nine points.

With the win, Lynden moves on to the semifinal round of the 2A district playoffs and will face Lakewood at Mount Vernon High School on Friday at 7:30.

Bellingham will be on the road on Friday at Burlington-Edison to take on the Tigers at 7:00 in a loser-out game.

Kelley

It was an even game after three quarters, but the Mariners used a 23-6 fourth quarter to take down the Wildcats at home in the first round of the 2A district tournament.

Sehome also shot the lights out as it was 29-for -52 from the field and a perfect 11-for-11 from the line as a team.

Mariner senior forward Xavier Kelley led the way with 24 points, 10 rebounds and two blocked shots.

Senior center Cole Turrell had 15 points and nine boards, and senior guard Nolan Wright added 11 points, eight rebounds and eight assists.

Senior forward Carter Duckworth couldn’t miss, literally, as he was 5-for-5 from the field and 2-for-2 at the foul line. He finished with 12 points and five rebounds.

With the win, the Mariners advanced to the semifinals of the 2A district tournament and will take on Anacortes at 5:30 on Friday at Mount Vernon High School.

Melton

The opening round game of the 1A district tournament meant that the winner will take on top-seeded Lynden Christian, and the loser would be done for the season. The Borderites used a 24-8 run in the second quarter to ensure victory at home over the Mountaineers.

Blaine senior forward Landon Melton was 7-of-14 from the field for 15 points, and junior forward Peyton Bouma also canned in 15 points on 5-of-6 from the field and 4-of-4 from the foul line.

Galbraith

Senior guard Kai Kerwin added nine points and a team-high eight rebounds, and senior guard Daniel Banks ripped off a team-high five steals.

Mount Baker was led by freshman forward Trey Galbraith who scored 14 points and was 5-of-5 from the free throw line.

Senior guard Jordan Bailey and junior center Kell Reardon each scored nine points, and junior guard Gage Smith pulled down six rebounds.

The Borderites will be at Lynden Christian to take on the Lyncs on Friday at 7:30. The season for the Mountaineers came to a close with a record of 3-16.

Granberg-Kiddle

There were numerous swings throughout the game, and the Storm led 25-22 at the half, but the Seahawks used a full-court trap in the third quarter which caused a pair of 10-second violations and Anacortes began the second half on a 12-2 run.

Squalicum rallied to begin the fourth and scored the first seven points of the final period, and a turnaround jumper by junior guard Blake Elston cut the Seahawk lead to 51-49 with one minute left.

Anacortes then went 1-for-2 at the foul line, and the Storm countered with an Eslton pass inside to junior center Orion Granberg-Kiddle who connected to make it a 52-51 game.

The Seahawks again went 1-for-2 at the line, and Squalicum had possession less than 20 seconds to go, down by two. Senior guard Rhys Knowlton got the ball inside to Granberg-Kiddle who banked it off the glass with five seconds left to tie the game at 53-53, which ultimately sent the game into overtime.

The Storm scored the first four points of the extra period, but Anacortes finished the game on a 9-2 run to collect the 2A district tournament win.

Both Elston and Granberg-Kiddle each finished with 16 points and five rebounds. Junior guard Hunter Calloway had 13 points, nine rebounds and five assists, and senior forward Ansen Asbjornsen added nine points, and was 5-of-7 from the foul line.

Squalicum will play at Archbishop Murphy on Friday at 6:00 in a loser-out contest.

Pazaski

Facing elimination in the 3A district tournament, the Golden Eagles found themselves down 38-26 at the half, but a strong second half got them back in the game and a shot by sophomore guard Houston Wills tied the game up at 56-56 with 1:42 left.

The strong comeback was all for naught as the Mavericks prevailed at home and ended the season for Ferndale.

The Golden Eagles were led by the 24 points of sophomore guard Tracen Pazaski, who scored 11 of them in the third quarter to get his team back in the game.

Wills ended with 12 points, and scored eight of them in the fourth quarter. Senior forward Mantaj Singh added 10 points, and junior guard Blake Singson hit a pair of deep balls for six points.

Ferndale’s season has ended with a record of 8-13.
