FERNDALE 3, MERIDIAN 0

Baydak

The Golden Eagles spoiled the home opener for the Trojans in the first big marquee matchup up the season that featured two teams that finished their season in the Yakima Sun Dome last season.

Ferndale won in straight sets, 25-17, 25-13 and 25-21.

Junior setter Brooklyn Larrabee was all over the court wit5 25 assists, 11 digs, five kill, three aces and a block to held lead the way.

Short

Junior Svetlana Baydak was the main recipient of Larrabee’s passing as she finished with a team-high 16 kills to go with her eight digs. Senior libero Kartina Ferry led the Golden Eagles with 17 digs and sophomore Ashley Pietig added seven digs.

Meridian was led offensively by sophomore Melanie Short who totaled 15 kills, five digs and two aces.

Senior Chloe Bressler dished out 35 assists in her new role at setter, and senior Kinsley Neal had a team-high eight digs.

 

LYNDEN CHRISTIAN 3, MOUNT VERNON 1

Wright

The Lyncs took the first set, but the Bulldogs came back in the second set to win 25-23. Lynden Christian then adjusted to what Mount Vernon was going and was able to take control of the match and won the next two sets 25-21 and 25-7.

Senior setter Ella Fritts led the balanced attack with her 41 assists, which enabled sophomores Sadie Meyer (13 kills) and Tyra Dykstra (12 kills), as well as senior Etta DeJong (10 kills) to pick their spots offensively.

Defensively, senior Alli Wright totaled an incredible seven blocks, while junior Lyla Parriera led the Lyncs with 19 digs. Parriera also served up three aces in the match.

 

SEHOME 3, MOUNT BAKER 0

Flory

Mariners showed why they are one of the favorites in the highly contested Northwest Conference as they defeated the Mountaineers 25-18, 25-12, and 25-5 in the season opener for both teams.

Sehome took control early in the third set, and went on a 15-0 run before winning the match.

Soares

Sophomore Paige Flory and senior Hayden Niewiadomski each finished with 11 kills and seven digs to lead the Mariners. Flory also had a game-high six aces as well as two blocks.

Sophomore setter Taylor Turrell finished with 29 assists and four aces and Bellingham transfer Lily Jude added four kills.

Mount Baker was led at the net by junior Rebeca Soares who had five kill and three blocks.

Senior Kylee Bruland had a game-high nine digs, and senior Maddi Lewis added seven digs, while sophomore setter Laila Porter finished with eight assists in her varsity debut.
