DeJong

Both teams knew going in that they were going to be headed to the 2A state tournament next weekend at the Yakima SunDome, but this was the district championship game, and they both came out with the same fire and intensity that is needed to make it this far into the season.

The Lions bested the Mariners 25-19, 25-13 and 25-17 to stay undefeated on the season.

Whatcom County’s leading offensive attacker, junior Finley Parcher, had another tremendous outing as she posted 24 kills, eight digs and two blocks.

Senior Campbell DeJong kept volleys alive with a game-high 18 digs, and sophomore Izzie Stephan steered the offense to the tune of 37 assists, to go with her team-high three aces.

Flory

Senior Rian Stephan had eight kills, nine digs and four blocks, and junior Lexi Hermanutz added eight kills, 14 digs and a pair of aces.

Sehome was led by sophomore Taylor Turrell who finished with 16 assists and 14 digs.

Senior Hayden Niewiadomski had six kills, seven digs and three aces, junior Paige Flory put up six kills and six digs and senior Makenna Andrews added 10 digs.

Both teams will have to wait until Sunday to see where they are seeded in next weekend’s 2A state tournament.
