BLAINE 3, LA CONNER 1

Johnson

The Borderites won their first match of the year at home against the Braves, but it took a little extra work.

Blaine took the first set 25-19, but La Conner came back to take the second set 25-21. Near the end of the third set, the Braves scored a point to give them a 21-20 advantage, which prompted Blaine coach K.J. Assink to quickly call a timeout. Whatever was said during the break must have worked, because the Borderites came back to win the third set 25-22, and then they wrapped it up by winning 25-21 in the fourth set.

The one-two offensive punch of senior Ari Johnson and junior Teia Dube led Blaine to victory as it was the power game of Dube that went along perfectly with the flying finesse of Johnson.

Complete stats were not available, but will be posted on the volleyball stat leaders as soon as they are ready.

NOOKSACK VALLEY 3, COUPEVILLE 0

Bartl

The Pioneers packed too much power for the host Wolves as Nooksack Valley won in straight sets, 25-12, 25-16 and 25-18.

Senior setter Payton Bartl ran the offense efficiently, as multiple hitters got in on the action due to her 29 assists. Senior Grace DeHoog led with eight kills, while senior Gracie Rutgers and junior Elizabeth DeLange finished with seven kills each.

Nooksack Valley also racked up 18 aces from the service line, with senior Avery Juergens leading the way with five. She also led her team with seven digs.

BELLINGHAM 3, MARYSVILLE-GETCHELL 0

Smith

The Bayhawks got their season off on the right foot under new head coach, Krimson Rector, as they went on the road and defeated the Chargers 25-17, 25-18 and 25-16.

High-flying sophomore Sonoma Smith led the way with 12 kills, seven digs and five aces, while senior Mary Lockhart had eight kills, three digs and two blocks, and senior Jayda Knutsen added six kills, six digs and a pair of aces.

Junior Bailey Burge led Bellingham with eight digs, and junior setter Lulu Munro dished out 22 assists.
