BLAINE 3, MOUNT BAKER 1

Ellis

The Mountaineers came out strong, and took the first set on the road 25-20, but the Borderites quickly returned the favor and won 25-22 in set number two.

Blaine then won the third set 25-17, and came back strong at the end of the fourth set to seal the deal with a 25-23 win.

Junior Teia Dube led the attack with 23 kills, and senior Ainslee Ellis was locked in all night with 41 assists.

Soares

Senior Carly Saunders led the Borderites with three blocks to go with her nine kills.

Mount Baker seniors Reace Brown and Maddi Lewis each had seven kills to lead their team, and Lewis also had team-highs with five aces and 16 assists.

Senior Kaia Gesmundo finished with 13 digs and five kills, and junior Rebeca Soares had five kills and a season-high seven blocks.

NOOKSACK VALLEY 3, MERIDIAN 2

Rutgers

Over the past two weeks, both of these teams came back from a 2-0 deficit to defeat Lynden Christian 3-2. So, of course, when they met each other, how could it not go five sets?

The Trojans won the first set 25-21, and the Pioneers battled back to take set number two 25-20. Meridian won a close one in the third set, 25-23, but Nooksack Valley won the next two sets 25-22 and 15-8.

Pioneer senior setter Payton Bartl finished with 40 assists, and her distribution was about as even as it gets as her three hitters, seniors Grace DeHoog and Gracie Rutgers, and junior Elizabeth DeLange, finished with 15 kills a piece.

Bernardy

The balanced attack began with the 19 digs from DeHoog, and 18 digs from senior Avery Juergens. Nooksack Valley also got 10 digs each from junior Karson Olney and Bartl. Olney and Rutgers each also finished with three aces, and DeLange shut down the middle of the court with seven blocks.

Leading the Trojan attack was sophomore Melanie Short (19 kills) and junior Eden Bernardy (18 kills). Bernardy also led her team with 18 digs, and Short led with three aces.

Senior Chloe Bressler dished out 38 assists, and senior Gracie Pap had eight kills and three blocks.

FERNDALE 3, MOUNT VERNON 2

Larrabee

After taking the first two sets 25-20 and 25-16, the Golden Eagles found themselves in an unusual situation as the Bulldogs won the third set 26-24.

It was the first set in conference play that Ferndale had dropped, and Mount Vernon rode the momentum into the fourth set, and won 25-20. The Golden Eagles won out in the end by taking the final set 15-8.

The Ferndale back line astonished with 98 digs in the marathon match on the road, with seniors Katrina Ferry (22) and Caitlyn Berg (20) leading the way.

Junior Svetlana Baydak had a great overall game with 12 kills, 15 digs and 2.5 blocks, while sophomore Adelle Overson finished with eight kills, three digs, 3.5 blocks and two aces.

Junior Brooklyn Larrabee also made sure that the local stat keepers had enough lead and ink in their writing utensils as she posted 34 assists, 11 digs, five aces, three blocks and two kills.

LYNDEN 3, BURLINGTON-EDISON 0

Hermanutz

The Lions remained strong on the road by defeating the Tigers in straight sets, 25-17, 25-15 and 25-23.

Junior Lexi Hermanutz enjoyed her biggest game of the season as she finished with 13 kills, 16 digs and two aces to lead Lynden to victory.

Junior Finley Parcher added 15 kills and 10 digs, and sophomore Izzie Stephan quarterbacked the offense to the tune of 38 assists.

Senior Campbell DeJong had a team-high 18 digs, and senior Rian Stephan added nine kills, five digs and two blocks.
