FERNDALE 3, MOUNT VERNON 2

At one point, about halfway through the regular season, the Golden Eagles hadn’t dropped a set in a conference match. And then they went to Mount Vernon, and narrowly escaped with a five-set victory.

Larrabee

Although Ferndale’s overall record is much stronger than that of the Bulldogs, it was proven last night that the matchup earlier in the season wasn’t a fluke as Mount Vernon gave the Golden Eagles all they could handle.

Ferndale won the first set 25-23, and dropped the next two 25-20 and 25-23, before completing the comeback by winning the next two sets 25-22 and 15-8.

Junior setter Brooklyn Larrabee steered the ship to the tune of 40 assists while also picking up 15 digs, eight kills, four aces and a block.

Junior outside hitter Svetlana Baydak had a double-double with 15 kills and 14 digs, and senior defensive specialist Caitlyn Berg added a team-high 22 digs.

Senior Katrina Ferry finished with 19 digs, sophomore Adelle Overson had eight kills, four digs and three blocks and senior Jillea Fox had 11 kils, four dig, 1.5 blocks and also sang the National Anthem before the game.

The Golden Eagles will move on to the semifinal round, and will face Everett at 7:00 on Thursday at Stanwood High School.
