LYNDEN 3, SEHOME 1

With both Whatcom County teams meeting up in the semifinals, it was already know that a local team would be represented in the 2A championship match.
The Lions took the first two sets 25-18 and 25-22, but the Mariners fought extremely hard to stay alive in the third set and eventually grabbed the 25-23 win, but a kill by junior Lexi Hermanutz gave Lynden the 25-18 win in the fourth set.
It may have been Hermanutz’s biggest game of the year as she finished with 16 kills and a team-high 23 digs, with each attack more powerful than the last.

Sophomore Izzie Stephan also dished out an incredible 52 assists, as junior Finley Parcher led the way with 22 kills, and senior Rian Stephan was not far behind with 21 kills.
Senior Campbell DeJong had 19 digs, while Rian Stephan and junior Sarah McVie each had a pair of blocks.
Sehome senior Makenna Andrews was incredibly busy as she racked up 27 digs over the four sets, while senior Hayden Niewiadomski had 23 kills, 14 digs and three blocks.
Junior Paige Flory had another double-double with 12 kills and 12 blocks to go with her two aces, and senior Bridgette Adams had 2.5 blocks.
COLUMBIA RIVER 3, SEHOME 0

In the battle for third place in the state, the Mariners ran into an incredibly strong Rapids team that was one of the top hitting teams of the entire tournament.
Columbia River got out fast to win the first set 25-15. Sehome played better as the match wore on, but dropped the next two sets 25-21 and 25-23.
Andrews and sophomore Taylor Turrell each had nine digs to lead the Mariners, while Turrell also added 24 assists.
Adams led Sehome in blocks for the second time on Saturday, this time with 1.5, and she also knocked home six kills, while Niewiadomski and senior Lily Jude each had five kills.
Flory led the Mariners with eight kills.
The 4th-place finish was the highest for Sehome since 2014.
LYNDEN 3, ELLENSBURG 0

The Lions were able to finish the season undefeated by sweeping the Bulldogs, but it wasn’t as easy as all that.
Lynden came into the match on a roll, and even though the overloaded trophy case at Lynden High School has a lot of gold balls in it, none of them are volleyballs.
Every set was incredibly hard fought (26-24, 25-23 and 26-24), but the Lions found a way to make it happen with incredible defense and timely offense, and now, the newest gold ball in the trophy case WILL be a volleyball.

DeJong went after every ball in the backcourt and finished with 31 digs, while Parcher and and Hermanutz also had over 20 digs each.
Parcher also led the offense with 21 kills, and Rian Stephan added 10 kills, 17 digs and a team-high four blocks, and senior Olivia Holmes added three blocks at the net.
Izzie Stephan had a big serving run in the third set to get the Lions back into the lead after being down, and she finished with a team-high three aces to go along with 36 assists and 10 digs.
A serve from Hermanutz was unable to be returned when Lynden was up 25-24 in the third set, and when the final whistle was blown the Lion bench ran to the middle of the court and collapsed with the rest of the team.
MERIDIAN 3, LA CENTER 1

The Trojans stayed on from Friday’s matches, and rolled into Saturday morning with winning on their minds.
From the onset, it looked like it would go five sets as Meridian narrowly won the first two 26-24 and 27-25, and dropped the third set 26-24.
The Trojans then bounced back, played with confidence and defeated the Wildcats 25-17 to move on the the 1A Championship Game for the first time in 21 years.
Sophomore Melanie Short finished with 26 kills and 17 digs, both of which led the team, and junior Eden Bernardy added 14 kills and nine digs,
Senior setter Chloe Bressler had 58 assists, 10 digs and a team-high three aces, while senior Gracie Pap added 11 kills and a team-high four blocks.
LYNDEN CHRISTIAN 3, KALAMA 0

The Lyncs came back on Saturday morning on fire, and took it to the Chinooks 25-11, 25-19 and 25-11.
Lynden Christian finished with 14 blocks over the three sets, with senior Alli Wright leading the way with four.
Senior Ella Fritts did a little bit of everything as she finished with four kills, five digs, three aces, three blocks, all of this while distributing 32 assists.
Sophomore Tyra Dykstra led the team with eight kills, and junior Lyla Parriera had a team-high 12 digs while junior Jocelyn Eshuis added seven kills, four digs and 3.5 blocks.
LYNDEN CHRISTIAN 3, CEDAR PARK CHRISTIAN 0

The victory for LC meant a relatively quick turnaround against the number-two seed Eagles of Cedar Park Christian.
The two teams had met back in September, so the familiarity was there for both squads, but the Lyncs made the most of it by sweeping Cedar Park Christian 25-19, 25-19 and 28-26.
Parriera stayed busy with 18 digs, and Eshuis was tough in the front row with 12 kills and 3.5 blocks.
Wright ended with eight kills and four blocks, and Dykstra added five kills, nine digs and a team-high six aces.
Fritts finished with 37 assists, five digs, three blocks and two aces. She also gave her patented one-handed reverse dunk attack to get the final point of the season.
With the two wins on Saturday, the Lyncs finished in 5th place.
CHELAN 3, MERIDIAN 0

The Trojans were ready, they were determined and they were also facing a team that has won the last five 1A state championships.
The Mountain Goats played the complete game, and Meridian did everything it could but ultimately fell 25-15, 25-12 and 25-17.
Short had a double-double with 18 points and 12 digs, and senior Kinsley Neal added 11 digs.
Bressler finished with 26 assists and two aces, and senior Taya Benson had a team-high two blocks.
FERNDALE 3, SNOHOMISH 1

The Golden Eagles started out of sync and dropped their first set 25-11 in their final match of the 3A district tournament.
A win meant a return trip to the 3A state tournament next weekend, and a loss would end the season.
Ferndale was able to wipe the first set away, and they battled hard to win the next two sets 25-22 and 25-21, which completely swayed the momentum in its favor.
The Golden Eagles flew out to a big lead in the fourth set and a power attack from junior Svetlana Baydak put the final nail in the coffin on a 25-12 win, and it also punched their ticket to state.
It was Baydak’s 19th kill of the afternoon, and she also finished with a team-high 14 digs.
Sophomore Adelle Overson had 14 kills and 3.5 blocks, while junior Brooklyn Larrabee and senior Katrina Ferry each dug out 13.
Larrabee also added 39 assists and seven kills for the Golden Eagles who will face Roosevelt at the Yakima SunDome on Friday morning at 8:00. The loser of that match will be done for the season, and the winner will then face top-ranked North Thurston later that day at 3:30.
