The Eagles were on a tear from the get-go, and the Lyncs could do little to come back from it. Cedar Park Christian led 7-0 after two innings, and even though Lynden Christian scored twice in the top of the third, that would be the only offense as the Eagles added on in the fourth and fifth. LC got a single and a double from sophomore leadoff hitter Taya Vander Kooi, and she also scored one of her team’s two runs. Kortnee Tolsma and Kassidy VanSoest each drove in a run, and VanSoest struck out nine batters in what ended up as her final varsity game as the Lyncs were eliminated from the state tournament. Their season ended with a record of 17-10.

L: VanSoest (9-6)

LC: Vander Kooi 2-3, 2B, R; Tolsma 1-3, RBI, SB; VanSoest 1-3, RBI; B. VanLoo 1-2; Terpstra 1-2, R.

Lynden 8, Selah 6

With their backs up against the wall, and down 3-0 after three innings, Rebecca Powell led off the top of the fourth with a double to left field. Abbi Schouten came in to run for Powell, the catcher, and Callie Ramerman followed up with a single, but Schouten was held at third base. Jami Huerta went to first base to run for Ramerman, the pitcher, and with one out Kaiah Tull used the sacrifice bunt to move both runners. Now with two outs, Kasey DeJong singled in Schouten, and Huerta followed that up with a steal of home. Melanie Anderson then tripled to centerfield to tie the game up at 3-3. A single by Sarah McVie scored Anderson, which gave Lynden the lead, and McVie came around and touched home plate after Campbell DeJong singled to left. The Vikings scored one in the bottom of the fourth, and another in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game at 5-5, but it was another triple off the bat of Anderson that picked of the Lion offense, and she was driven in by Sarah McVie as Lynden regained the lead. Anderson also drove in the final run of the game on her fourth hit of the day. She also broke a 29-year old school record for triples in a season, with 10. The win meant a quick turnaround to take on Mark Morris in another elimination game.

The Monarchs scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth, and led 8-1 going into the final inning. The Lions clawed back with a three-run homerun by Melanie Anderson, as well as an RBI triple from Campbell DeJong, but the comeback fell short as Lynden’s season came to a close with a record of 19-9. The two losses from the Lions in the state tournament came against the top two seeds.
