
SEATTLE – Whatcom County was well represented at the 2A and 1A state girls tennis tournaments, with the culmination being the Brooks twins, Halley and Avery from Lynden, capturing the 2A state championship in doubles competition. They also finished the season without losing a set all year.
Ella Morrow and Kira Carlson of Bellingham reached the semifinals in the doubles bracket, but lost a tough one 7-5, 6-0, and eventually finished in sixth place.
Lynden junior Rilanna Newcomb lost to the eventual singles champion in the quarterfinals, but fought back to take 4th place, and Lynden ended up finishing in second place as a team.
Bellingham senior Malia Hanks went 1-1 in day one, but was eventually ousted in day two, and the same went for the Sehome duo of Eva Ekdahl and Amelie Everett.
On the 1A side in Yakima, Ana Tuski of Blaine lost her play-in match, and Blaine’s doubles-team of Bea Dickson and Carly Saunders won its first match, but then bowed out after dropping the next two.
