  • Lynden Christian 1, Nooksack Valley 0

The Lyncs scored the lone goal of the game about five minutes into the second half when junior Nayla Speer’s corner kick bounced around the box before it was kicked back out by junior Macy VanCorbach back to Speer who nailed a shot into the back right corner of the net.

The Pioneers played their best defensive game of the year, as they held the high scoring Lyncs to the single goal, but Lynden Christian ended up with the win, and by doing so it also brought home the district championship and a trip to the state tournament.

Nooksack Valley will attempt to keep its season alive on Saturday when it faces Blaine at 7:00 in a winner-to-state/loser-out contest at Blaine High School.

  • Blaine 1, Meridian 0

Borderite junior Kate Koreski dribbled through a pair of defenders at put a shot into the back corner of the goal a little over halfway through the first half, and it proved to be enough to keep Blaine’s season alive as they picked up the win over Trojans in the consolation round of the district tournamant.

The Borderites will face Nooksack Valley at 7:00 in a winner-to-state/loser-out contest at Blaine High School, and the season for Meridian came to a close.

  • Sehome 4, Anacortes 3

The Mariners secured the 2A district championship by defeating an incredibly strong Seahawk team.

Senior Keira Reeves scored the first goal of the game on a free kick, and Reeves then found junior Vivian Moss for the second Sehome goal.

Senior Ryan Boehm scored when she went after her own shot that was blocked, and the fourth goal came from junior Kylie Ivcevic.

The Mariners will await their draw for the 2A state tournament, and will likely be hosting a first-round game at Civic Stadium next week.

  • Lynden 3, Bellingham 2 (PK’s)

Three years ago, these two teams met for the district championship, which was won by the Lions.

Two years ago, Lynden defeated Bellingham in a consolation round game, 2-1.

Last season, they met again, this time in a winner-to-state/loser-is-out contest, which was won by the Bayhawks.

If it’s the 2A district tournament, these two teams will play a crucial game, and it will be exciting.

With a little over six minutes remaining in regulation, it had looked like the Bayhawks were eliminate the Lions from the district tournament for the second year in a row.

Bellingham had a 1-0 lead thanks to a first-half goal by senior Beckett Ferry, but Lynden had tied it up when senior Mariah VanderMey’s corner kick had a little english on it, fought with the gusts of wind, and went right into the corner of the net to tie the match at 1-1.

Elation poured over the pitch, as a dramatic finish was beginning to unfold.

In the final two minutes, the Bayhawks retook the lead when junior Alli Bailey scored off a rebound, and the momentum swayed all the back to Bellingham.

Not knowing when the final whistle would blow in the final two minutes, the Lions took instructions from the coaches on the sideline and were able to score in the final seconds on a goal from senior Rilanna Newcomb.

After two 5-minutes overtime periods, it went to penalty kicks. Bellingham’s first two kicks were blocked, and Lynden’s first two were netted, which gave the Lions a big advantage.

The Bayhawks then flipped the table on Lynden to keep their season alive, but when sophomore Saneha Grewal scored her kick, it won the game for the Lions, and ended the season for Bellingham.

Lynden will travel to Karl Graf Stadium to take on Selah at 2:00 on Saturday in a winner-to-state/loser-out match.
