  • Nooksack Valley 4, Blaine 3

In a game full of momentum swings, the Borderites took the lead three separate times, but each time it would be answered by the Pioneers before ending regulation with a score of 3-3.

Nooksack Valley senior Kennedy Brown made her penalty kick, and it was followed with a Blaine miss. Pioneer junior Gretchen Elmendorf made the second PK, and the Borderites missed again. When sophomore Khloe Mora made her kick on her team’s third attempt, it meant that if the next Blaine kick was missed, the game would be over.

It was an accurate shot, but Nooksack Valley keeper Kayla Wooten was able to make the save and secure the win for the Pioneers.

Nooksack Valley’s goals in regulation were scored by Elmendorf, Mora and sophomore Jessica Kingma, and Blaine received goals from senior Bea Dickson and juniors Kate Koreski and Nevaeh Zaddack.

The Pioneers will face Lynden Christian in the 1A district championship game at 7:30 on Wednesday at Blaine High School, and the Borderites will take on Meridian at 5:00 on Wednesday at Blaine High School.

  • Lynden Christian 8, Meridian 0

The Lync’s firepower proved to be too much for the Trojans as sophomore Kaelyn Hinton finished with a hat trick, and junior Nayla Speer added two goals and three assists in the Lynden Christian shutout win.

LC also received goals from seniors Estela Segel and Lucy Decker, as well as sophomore Caitlin Kok.

Lynden Christian will face Nooksack Valley in the 1A district championship game at 7:30 on Wednesday at Blaine High School.

The Seahawks got on the board one minute after Hoglin’s goal, off of a corner kick, and was able to tie it up with 10 minutes left.

Anacortes pulled out the win in penalty kicks, and the Storm will now face Lynden on Monday at 8:00 in a loser-out game at Ferndale High School.
