Mount Baker 8, Nooksack Valley 7
It was figured to be a good game, and it ended up being a great game. The Pioneers struck first when Kenzie Likkel hit a three-run homerun, and it was answered by a solo shot in the bottom of the inning by Gracie Zender. The Mountaineers then took the lead in the bottom of the second inning when Annalee Cohn doubled to the right field wall, which scored Kennedy Rathjen and Alyssa DeRoco. Mount Baker ended the inning with a 6-3 lead. Alayna Dykstra led off the top of the third with an opposite field homerun on the first pitch of the inning to bring Nooksack Valley within two runs. Later in the inning, Likkel doubled and that was followed up by a game-tying homerun off the bat of Gracie Rutgers. The scored remained tied at 6-6 until the bottom of the fifth inning when Zender hit her second homerun of the day, and the Whatcom County-leading 11th of the season. Pioneer freshman Alayna VanIeperen answered with a solo homerun of her own to lead off the top of the sixth inning. The game remained tied at 7-7, and in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Mounties had the bases loaded with just one out, but VanIeperen was able to get out of the jam by getting the next two batters to pop up and ground out. The Pioneers had a chance to score in the top of the eighth, but their runner was gunned down at the plate by Annalee Cohn. Cohn then preceded to double in the bottom of the eighth inning, which brought the Jaydn Hoffman, the game-winning run to third base. That set up the game-winning single by Cadence Cloninger as the home team was able to pull out the hard-fought victory.
