The Sehome Mariners celebrate winning the 2A District Tournament and clinching a state berth.

2A District Playoffs:

Sehome 1, Squalicum 0

Lynden 1, Burlington-Edison 0

Archbishop Murphy 5, Bellingham 2

Sehome 1, Squalicum 0

Mariner sophomore goalkeeper Bane Mitchell dove to his right to save the fifth and final penalty kick, which not only won the game for Sehome, but won the 2A district championship and state playoff berth. No goals were scored in regulation time, or in the extra 10 minutes of overtime, and was needed to be decided by penalty kicks. It was eerily similar to last year’s 2A district championship game that had the exact same scenario, from the same two teams. Only in 2024, Squalicum came away as the winner. The Storm will now play at 1:00 on Saturday at Civic Stadium against the winner of the Lynden/Archbishop Murphy game which will take place Thursday night at 7:00 at Civic Stadium.

Lynden 1, Burlington-Edison 0

Sophomore defenseman Luke VanBerkum scored for the Lions and it proved to be enough as Lynden kept its season alive by defeating the Tigers in the 2A district tournament. It will be a quick turnaround for the Lions as they will face Archbishop Murphy at 7:00 tomorrow at Civic Stadium.

Archbishop Murphy 5, Bellingham 2

The Bayhawks held an early 2-0 lead behind goals from Carson Brethauer and Santiago Reyes, but the Wildcats were able to tie the game at 2-2 by the half. Archbishop Murphy then scored three more goals in the second half to pull away with the victory at the 2A district tournament. The season came to a close for Bellingham who finished with a record of 9-5-5.
