Elston

The Storm jumped out to a double-digit lead after one quarter of play, and the Trojans played them evenly throughout the rest of the game, but were never able to take a lead as Squalicum held it together long enough to pick up the road win.

Junior guard Blake Elston did a little bit of everything for the Storm as he finished with 27 points, four assists, four steals, three rebounds and two blocks while shooting 8-for-11 from the field, and 8-for-12 from the foul line.

Larsen

Junior center Orion Granberg-Kiddle was also on his way to big game as he had 10 points and seven rebounds in the first half, but was ejected early in the third quarter.

Freshman guard Kingston Thompson had a breakout game with eight points, four rebounds and two steals, and senior guard Rhys Knowlton added eight points, seven rebounds, three assists and a huge steal late in the game when he reverted to his football skills from just a few months ago and intercepted a high inbound lob pass which halted Meridian’s chances for a late comeback.

Trojan senior center Daniel Larsen led his team with a double-double, 14 points and 12 rebounds, while junior guards Gabe Galbraith and Trey Alexander had 12 points and 10 points, respectively.

Call it a family trait. Over the years, the Dykstra family has had the ability to come up big in the biggest moments, generally on the hardwood. And, if you really notice, their faces are always in “game face” mode, never showing emotion one way or the other. It happened again last night.

Dykstra

With the game on the line, the Lyncs rebounded a missed free throw with 24 seconds left in overtime, and they were down 90-89.

Junior guard Dawson Hintz used a Kaden Veldman screen to get past his defender, but another Cub was waiting under the hoop so he kicked it to junior guard Gunnar Dykstra in the corner.

Dykstra brought it out the the elbow, surveyed they defense, and then drove to the baseline, stopped on a dime to rise off the ground and hit a 15-foot jumper with six seconds left in the game.

A Cub timeout was quickly called, but Sedro-Woolley was unable to get a great look and missed a desperation three as the final buzzer sounded.

Dykstra finished with a game-high 32 points and four assists.

Hintz added 29 points, nine assists, eight rebounds and two steals, and senior guard Eli Maberry enjoyed his biggest game of the season thus far with 14 points on 5-of-6 shooting, which included 4-of-5 from beyond the arc.

Veldman also posted a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds, and the 6-foot-4 junior forward also added five assists and two blocks.
