The Wildcats lost to the eventual district champions Anacortes in the semifinals, and needed to win three straight in the consolation bracket to get to the 2A state tournament. They did it by defeating three Whatcom County teams, with the final one being the Bayhawks on Saturday afternoon. Bellingham’s dream run came to an abrupt end as everything went right for Archbishop Murphy in the final game of the 2A district tournament. Alden Scott doubled, while the Bayhawks also got singles from Joe Harward, Eli Goodbuffalo and Eric Helfield. Junior Kai Nelson pitched the complete game, and struck out four batters as Bellingham’s season came to a close with a record of 9-16.

With a trip to the 1A state tournament on the line, the last two Whatcom County teams standing battled at Joe Martin Stadium. The Trojans tied the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the second inning, but the Lyncs scored three runs over the next two innings to re-take the lead. Meridian scored in the bottom of the fourth, and the bottom of the sixth which cut Lynden Christian’s lead to just one run at 7-6, but the Lyncs answered back with three runs in the top of the seventh behind an RBI single from Eli Maberry, and RBI double from Eli Stamps and Maberry also scored on a balk. The Trojans were able to get two runners on base on the bottom of the seventh, but couldn’t push across any runs. The win clinched a spot in the 1A state playoffs for Lynden Christian, while the season came to a close for Meridian which finished with an 11-12 record.

With a spot already clinched in the 1A state tournament, this game was about seeding, with maybe a little revenge thrown in. The Knights had defeated the Lyncs to open up the 1A district tournament in a tightly contested 8-7 ballgame. Lynden Christian scored firstĀ when Sam Kok singled in Eli Stamps in the top of the fourth inning, and Brayden Engels scored an inning later after hitting his third double of the afternoon as he was knocked in by Jaxon Huleatt, who also came on to finish the game on the mound and get his second save of the season. Eli Maberry got the win after giving up just three hits, and getting the save in the game before. The Lyncs will now wait and see who their first round opponent will be, as well as when and where they will play.
